A pack of two Twinkies(R) has just landed on my desk. They’ll be my first. I’m thinking about hot-footing it over to a fish and chip shot and getting them deep fried…

Don’t go “shooting anybody”:http://www.snopes.com/legal/twinkie.htm. You won’t actually get away with it.
What’s a Twinkie?
I took this pic while on the boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California.

Astounding, no? I’ve never seen anything like it. And though I’ve eaten many a twinkie, I’ve never, ever, once thought of frying them.

My idea behind frying them comes from a tradition we have here in the UK (well, the north anyway) of deepfrying things – several fish and chip shops pride themselves on their deep-fried mars bars for example. Think of it as “Tempura”:http://www.japan-guide.com/r/e106.html, heart-attack style. Oh, and for more on the wonderful world of twinkies, see the “offical site”:http://www.twinkies.com/index.asp (flash alert!).
